Review: My Beauty Diary Black Pearl Mask

About a year ago, I started experimenting with various brands of Asian skincare. I focused most of my attention on trialing different My Beauty Diary sheet masks and have been on a mission to find the perfect one for my skin for nearly 10 months now. As most of you know, I am turning 38 this year and while taking good care of my skin has been a huge priority for me ever since I was about 18, it became increasingly important after I had my kids. My skin tone, texture and even pigmentation changed when I became a mom and my routine of applying a daily moisturizing lotion and using a gentle cleanser just wasn’t enough anymore. Of course, it is important to note that if you are unhappy with your skin, then you might want to do some research into finding a dermatologist, such as the team at Derrow dermatology for example, who can help you to reach a potential solution to your problems. However, there are definitely some steps you can take at home too, and face masks are a perfect example of this.
What I truly LOVE about the My Beauty Diary masks, aside from the quality is the variety…..there is literally something in the range for just about everyone. Whether your skin is dry, oily, dull, acne-prone, aging or just in need of a thorough cleansing, there are at least a dozen options for you to choose from (Apple, Aloe Vera, Sake and Yogurt are just a few). While I interchangeably use 3 different masks throughout the year (skin behaviour is never consistent and varies due to diet, stress, sleep etc) my hands down favourite is the Black Pearl Mask (photographed below).
Each package comes with 10 masks and each mask comes individually packaged in a sachet with cut out holes for your lips and eyes. These are not perfectly sized for every face shape, so caution should be exercised not to get any product into your eyes, especially if you’re lying down. If you have overly sensitive skin, I would also not recommend applying any of these masks for longer than 20 minutes before rinsing off. I usually keep mine on for 40 minutes however I would not recommend this unless you have used these products before.

Now, onto the review. The black pearl mask contains primarily fruit extracts, which work to chemically tone and exfoliate the skin. It is also marketed to brighten the skin and even out any hyper-pigmentation or redness. I find that this mask instantly tightens my skin. It’s firming properties are truly remarkable. This also does a great job of gently exfoliating dead skin cells from the surface of your face and neck. My only complaint is that the Black Pearl mask does not tighten or reduce my pores. The only mask that claims to do so is the Apple Mask, but I have yet to try that one. Another “issue” I have with these is that the mask can get quite sticky so every time I adjusted it, my hands and fingers needed a good rinse.
I treat myself to this regenerating mask every week and feel that it has made a huge difference for my skin. Although, I’ve never had to worry about breakouts and acne, as I mentioned my skin had lacked lustre and started to look and feel tired. With regular use, these sheet masks have significantly improved the texture and tone of my skin.

BEAUTY TIP ******* Although I can not confirm the validity of this, the Black Pearl mask has been noted to help with post-acne scarring. It should not be used if your face is prone to inflammatory acne, rosacea, or dermatitis, or if you have any current pimples or cuts on your face, as this will aggravate these skin conditions.
