NYX Jumbo Pencils Swatches & Photos

Depending on who you ask, NYX jumbo pencils are either an eyeliner or a creamy eye shadow. Used mostly as a base to bring out the pigmentation or intensity of powder shadows/pigments these “come in a rainbow of vivid hues”. According to the NYX website, there are now 32 assorted shades ranging from milky white to electric blue.

My first impression of these was a bit disappointing, mainly because I had used them incorrectly and creasing occurred after 2-3 hours of wear. When I discovered that using a base underneath (I now use either a MAC paintpot or Urban Decay Primer Potion first then apply these) eliminated the creasing, I started to appreciate the full benefit of this product.

I love that these glide onto your eye without any pulling, tugging or fading. They have an incredibly soft and creamy formulation….made with a blend of mineral oils and powder.  I also like that you can easily create a smokey, neutral or bright eye with these depending on the look that you are going for.  My most used pencils are MILK, Black BEAN & French FRIES. The color payoff is wonderful, they are inexpensive and are readily available online or at local retailers (i.e. USA: Ulta, Canada: Pharma Plus). I prefer to use the pencil directly on my eye then use my fingers to blend well. I have tried using a brush to apply them but prefer the finger method. On occasion, however, depending on the shade, I may use a brush to blend out the color.
Despite my fondness for this product, I really wish that NYX would consider making these pencils retractable rather than having to sharpen them with an over sized sharpener. I have heard that refrigerating them slightly just before sharpening prevents excess product wastage. These are very soft, so hardening them allows for less of the product to be lost in the sharpening process.
Here are some swatches.
While I don’t own the entire range, I do have quite a few of them so these photos should be able to assist you with product selection.
Enjoy~

Do you plan on picking any of these up?
