Dermalogica Face Mapping, Treatment & Products

Back in October I started using the Ultra Calming line by Dermalogica on a daily basis as part of my regular skin routine. For more information on how I discovered their range of products, see my recent post here.  I had high expectations for this line, since it promised dramatic results and a reduction in the appearance of skin redness due to inflammation.

Skin sensitivity comes in many forms, and although I’ve never considered my skin to be super sensitive, I have suffered from redness in the form of hyper-pigmentation for as long as I can remember. The triggers that cause the “itching, burning, stinging or redness” associated with sensitive skin come from a variety of culprits including genetics, hormones, stress, foods as well as environmental/chemical factors. I have been trialing the Ultra Calming line for over one month now, using the cleanser, repair cream, serum concentrate and ultra calming mist daily. I also apply the relief masque whenever I feel my skin needs some quick relief from irritation. Without a doubt, my skin looks and feels a lot better overall. It feels cleaner, more invigorated, smoother and more hydrated. I realize that my redness issue will only continue to improve as the general health of my skin also improves with continued use and over time.

After my positive product experience, I decided to go to the Dermalogica office in Toronto for a specialized face mapping and skin treatment. The office, also one of the International Dermal Institutes (IDI), provides postgraduate education for those interested in becoming skin therapists.

Once I arrived, I was asked to complete a consultation card, which is used to evaluate individual skin care needs. I was then whisked away to a super tranquil room where I changed into a white robe and waited for my skin treatment. Before the treatment began, I received a customized face mapping, where all 14 zones of my face were analyzed. Based on their condition, my very own skin therapist prescribed skin care recommendations for optimal benefit. The RESULTS? A few dehydrated zones, some dry skin around the ears, sensitivity on the cheeks, a few fine lines around the eyes and comedones in the t-zone. I had no breakout regions, no dilated capillaries or milia, and no deep lines. Phew! As it turned out I was already using a combination of the correct products. She also recommended that I incorporate the Daily Microfoliant into my routine (for exfoliation and skin brightening), which is Dermalogica’s top selling product across their entire range of products.

Dermalogica proved to me, that they are a force to be reckoned with in the skin care industry and it is no surprise that they are the #1 choice of skin care professionals and consumers worldwide. If you have not tried them, I sincerely encourage that you do and if you already have, I’d love to hear your thoughts about any of their products.
