Maybelline Baby Lips are tinted moisturizing lip balms that have an SPF 20. There are a total six shades available in the permanent collection, two clear balms and four tinted ones. These balms are ultra-moisturizing and the few tinted ones that I’ve tried are very natural looking, even the brighter one called Pink Punch. These are great to throw in your bag or have on hand during any season, since they work well in cold weather when lips are dry or in the summer when lips need sun protection.
When these were first introduced, they were compared to the Revlon Lip Butters, however they are completely different products. Baby Lips are more sheer and balm-like in comparison to the Lip Butters, which carry more pigment and wear more like lipsticks.
These balms give your lips a nice subtle tint of colour and shine, which is nice for a lip balm, since balms are usually clear. All flavours are ultra-moisturizing, even the tinted ones. They don’t feel waxy, greasy or sticky at all and they smell great. The only thing I’d say about these are that they don’t last very long and I find myself needing to re-apply often throughout the day which is not always recommended for the lips. Also, although I don’t mind it at all, (and I’m in my late 30’s) the Baby Lips packaging looks like it was marketed for teens and young women and not for us mature ladies. Nonetheless, it’s what’s inside that counts.
This is the first balm that has stood up well to my holy grail Nivea Kiss of Moisture balm. I had not found anything remotely as moisturizing as Nivea’s until now.
