The Colorstay Whipped Creme Makeup by Revlon is the most recent addition to Revlon’s foundation family. The consistency of this foundation is unlike anything I’ve ever tried before and definitely belongs in a league of its own. Although this product was released awhile ago, I waited to provide my full review because I wanted to ensure that I had ample time to use this product fully and appreciate its unique formulation. There is nothing I hate more than reading a review written by someone who has tried a product just once!
Let’s start with the packaging. It is very heavy and sturdy. The product comes in a circular glass jar with a plastic top. I would have preferred a pump dispenser but the jar is very aesthetically appealing so it really doesn’t make a difference to me. It can be difficult to select a shade match since the glass surrounding the product is very thick and makes all the shades look similar in the store, so I relied solely on reviews and online swatches to select my shade before heading to the store. There is also only one tester available in most stores, so make sure you do your research beforehand to decide on your best colour match.
The texture of the Whipped Creme is mousse-like and feels very smooth and silky to the touch. Once applied to the skin, it spreads flawlessly and sets to a semi-dewy finish. I’ve read in other reviews that this products sets matte however for me this wasn’t the case. I will say, that is far less dewy then the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer or L’Oreal’s True Match Lumi, however it did have to be set with a finishing powder or setting spray for best results.
Typically, cream foundations are thicker in consistency, and provide good oil-control and this one is no different. I actually find it much more dense than most cream foundations I’ve tried, hence the difficulty I initially experienced with it’s application. Once it’s on the skin, the consistency is very light and you almost forget that it’s even there. I have heard that the Whipped Creme is similar to the Colorstay Liquid Makeup for Oily/Combination skin, also by Revlon, but can not confirm this as I have not personally tried the latter. People with extra dry skin would be best to avoid this product as it tends to accentuate any dry areas on the face unless sufficient moisturizer is applied beforehand.
I would consider this product to be medium coverage, but it can easily be built-up to a more full coverage if required. It withstands to heat and humidity fairly well. It is marketed to last 24 hours however I would not recommend that anyone keep any foundation on your skin for that long, so the most I’ve tried it for is about 14 hours and it held up very well, with no touch-ups required. I’ve also read that this foundation tends to look better the longer it stays on… and surprisingly this is in fact true. It looks more natural after it has had time to settle a bit. For that reason, I recommend that you set this product 3-5 minutes after you apply it to allow the “time-released” formula to work it’s magic.
I’ve experimented with this foundation a great deal and as mentioned didn’t find it was the easiest formula to work with initially. I tried sponges, several different brushes and my fingers until finally coming up with the application method that worked best for me. Depending on what you are looking for, finger tips or a damp sponge will allow for a lighter application while brushes will pack on more product and provide fuller coverage. If using a brush, I prefer the Sigma F80 Flat Top Kabuki but I usually just use my fingers or the Beauty Blender first and then follow up by using a clean F80 brush to buff the product into my skin.
