Nothing Else Metals! Maybelline Color Tattoo METALS: 24H Eyeshadow Review & Swatches

Maybelline’s Color Tattoo eye shadows were an instant sensation when they first showed up in stores back in Fall/Winter 2011. With that memorable release were a total of 10 cream shadows, known for their intense pigmentation and superb quality. The formula of the Maybelline Color Tattoos has been compared to MAC paint pots and other high-end cream shadows like the Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadows. You may recall me posting about them here.

This Spring, Maybelline is adding to the lineup with the Color Tattoo METALS, a metallic spin on the original formula. Of the 5 new metallic shades available, I have three of them to show you. The biggest difference between these and the original tattoos is that the METALS are shimmery and less opaque. Being metallics, the METAL collection does not have the same pigmentation that the original Color Tattoos have but all of them do have the same impressive crease-proof, 24h wear.

The consistency of the METALS is very creamy. Because these have a creamier texture, they tend to sheer out more easily and do not have the same vibrancy that the original non-metallic shades have. That’s not to say that they aren’t something special though….each of the shades I own can easily be layered for a more metallic and reflective look if desired. The cream formula glides on easily and lasts all day. I did not experience any creasing or colour fading after about twelve hours of wear. I can not comment on their effectiveness beyond that time, since I removed my eye makeup after that. Applying this product was super easy and quick. I usually use my fingers, but firm, flat brushes like the MAC 242 or 249 work just as well.
Shade Selection:

Inked in Pink 55 – pinky rose-gold with a metallic finish
Silver Strike 60 – bright silver with a metallic finish
> Gold Rush 65 – yellow gold with a metallic finish
Barely Branded 70 warm creamy beige with a frosted metallic finish. This one reminded me a lot of MAC’s Bare Study, expect Barely Branded looks more warm-toned and Bare Study looks more white.
> Electric Blue 75 – navy blue with a fine frosted finish
