First Impression: La Roche-Posay Hydreane BB Creme

Have you tried the Hydreane BB creme by La Roche-Posay? Despite being available in Europe for awhile now, this product just showed up in Canada earlier this month. I was interested in trying it out mainly because all of the other “western BBs” I had tried to date (i.e. Marcelle, Maybelline, Revlon, etc) were manufactured by cosmetic companies and La Roche-Posay is a skincare brand.  I’ve written about BB creams before, explaining their history, benefits, etc. More on that here. Essentially, BB creams are multi-use products that moisturize, cover, brighten and protect the skin.

La Roche-Posay Hydreane BB Creme – Light – $29 / 40ml
(also available in shade Medium)

This particular BB Creme is available in 2 colours: Light & Medium. I think  “light” would be best suited for anyone with a fair to light complexion (i.e. wears a MAC NC/W 15-30) and “medium”, is more for light to medium skin tones (i.e. NC/W 35+). I’m a NC35 but chose to go with the “Light” because I didn’t want to risk it looking too dark on me and I figured I could always use a bronzing powder if I needed to. Some people may dislike that the Hydreane BB Creme does not have a built in SPF but I wear a separate sunscreen so this wasn’t a concern for me personally.

When I applied this product for the first time, I noticed that it provided ample coverage for my needs. I don’t normally need anything heavy and like something that will even out my skin tone and tone down any redness. It was able to brighten my complexion and cover some of my hyper-pigmentation. The “BB mineral pigments” are supposed to melt into the skin for an immediately unified, evened and fresh-faced complexion. I did notice an improved and more even skin tone when I used this. My only gripe is that the shade I chose “adjusted” a wee bit pinkish on me and I usually shy away from products with pink-undertones. For people with problematic acne, I do think this product will provide a good base, but blemishes may require additional spot concealing. The texture of this BB is great. It is smooth and has a non-greasy consistency. I also really like that it kept my skin hydrated for the entire day.

Hygienically packaged in a travel-friendly squeeze tube, the La Roche-Posay Hydreane BB Creme is great for people with sensitive skin. It is made with thermal spring water  which is known to help manage skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, excessive dryness, scarring and burns. This product has been tested under dermatological control, is non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic and paraben-free.
