Real Techniques Brush Review: Travel Essentials Set

Back in February, I announced that Real Techniques were now being sold at Walmart locations across Canada. At the time, I already owned an assortment of their brushes, having already purchased two sets and a variety of individual ones in the USA the year before. Nonetheless, I was delighted to share the great news with all of my Canadian readers, who would now have better access to the brand. For more about Real Techniques or to check out the post I’m referring to, click here
If you are new to this site or perhaps visiting for the first time, you may not know that these brushes are among some of my favourites to apply my makeup, alongside both MAC (mid-range) and Eco Tools (budget-friendly). I’m also a fan of Sigma, however Sigma is not as accessible…and are only available online or more recently at the Mall of America.
The Travel Essentials Kit by Real Techniques includes 3 full size brushes: a foundation brush, multi-task brush and a domed eye shadow brush. (more on that below) This set is perfect for makeup application “on the go” or if you want to only invest in a few core brushes that can be used for multiple purposes. Every Real Techniques set (i.e. base core collection, eye starter kit) including this one, comes with a sturdy panoramic case/stand. The bristles are synthetic taklon, hand cut and 100% cruelty free. They are very soft and don’t shed at all (even after washing). The brushes are also colour-coded which takes the guesswork out of determining what each brush is intended to be used for. Brushes with an orange/gold ferrule “create a flawless base” (i.e. foundation, concealer), the pink ferrule brushes are for “that perfect finish (i.e. blush, bronzer) and the purple ones are “to enhance the eyes“.
Travel Essentials Set:
Essential Foundation BrushUse this brush to apply liquid foundation
I find this brush to be a little too small to use for foundation and prefer to use it to apply concealer to larger areas of my face.

Multi-Task Brush – Use this brush to apply powder, blush or bronzer
This brush is way too big for blush, contour or highlight application. I think it’s much better suited for applying loose/pressed powder or bronzer.

Domed Shadow Brush – Use this brush to shade and define the eyes.
I use this brush to apply & blend eyeshadow, however I do prefer it more for blending due to it’s tapered design.

Multi-Task, Essential Foundation & Domed Shadow Brushes

Overall, this is an incredible brand and a great set. These brushes are  affordable and high quality….which I think is a rare combination. I love everything about these brushes: the soft bristles, precise application, design and durability. I do wish, however that this particular set included a few more brush options. I think the addition of a smaller blush brush as well as a detail brush ( to use for liner or brows) would make excellent additions. Aside from that, I think this is a great basic kit to get started with.

Do you have any Real Techniques brushes?
If so, how do you like them?
