REVIEW: Vichy NutriEXTRA Extraordinary Oil for Face, Body & Hair!

I’ve been re-evaluating my relationship with oils lately. I’m referring to essential oils for the face, body or hair and quite frankly I’ve decided that they are no longer the enemy. This could be because the skin on my body has become drier with age or perhaps because I’ve been finding some incredible oil-based products that are working wonders on my hair & skin?

Many of you already know how I feel about Argan oil and Moroccanoil products! Those oils have transformed my hair into the “healthy mane” it is today. Also on my favourites list, is my newly acquired facial cleansing oil that I posted about earlier today by Shu Uemura. Well, they say good things come in three’s right? Vichy’s new NutriEXTRA nourishing dry oil is the first “extraordinary oil” that is dry to the touch and deeply nourishing to the skin. Dry oils have been used for centuries to pamper the body. Today’s oils strive to leave skin satiny smooth and luminous on the surface. Many of them unfortunately neglect to treat the skin deep down below the epidermis where dry skin originates from and most of those oils are formulated with silicones that evaporate rapidly thus reducing their overall effectiveness. Vichy’s version uses 9 ester & plant-based oils which penetrate the skin deeply leaving a dry, satiny, soft feel to the skin rather than just an oily top layer. The precious oils, which include Muscat Rose Hip, Jojoba, Almond and Apricot, Macadamia, Passion Fruit Kernel, Blackcurrant Seed, Rice Bran, Sunflower & Coriander oils are extremely nourishing and when combined work beautifully to moisturize and soften the skin.

Here is a brief description of what you can expect from each Precious Oil in Vichy’s NutriEXTRA:

1) Muscat Rose Hip – Rich in fatty acids, this oil contributes to skin’s suppleness and has regenerating, moisturizing and  nourishing properties
2) Jojoba – A highly nourishing oil with remarkable affinity with skin & hair
3) Almond & Apricot – With the help of Vitamins A & B, these oils are a source of softening, smoothing & revitalizing and offer skin an attractive “no-shine” finish
4) Macadamia – Highly emollient and easily absorbed by the skin, this oil strengthens the hydrolipidic film and helps maintain moisture levels
5) Passion Fruit Kernel – Contains Vitamin F, which is emollient & very nourishing
6) Blackcurrant Seed – Acts against free radicals and is rich in Vitamin E and Omegas 3 & 6
7) Rich Bran – A highly anti-oxidant oil that softens and is well-suited for hair!
8) Sunflower – Also rich in Vitamin E and Omegas 3 & 6, this oil softens, nourishes and acts as an anti-oxidant
9) Coriander – Often used in massage oils for its warming qualities upon contact with the hand

Recommendations for Use:

For the FACE
> Spray a small amount into the palm of your hand and apply delicately to the face, avoiding the eye contour area

For the HAIR
> Apply along the hair length or directly to the ends of dry or damp hair. For even distribution, spray product into your hand then rub hands together and comb through hair using your fingertips. Can also be used as a hair mask by spraying directly to bleached or very dry hair and leaving 10-15 minutes before rinsing out. Recommended for normal-dry hair.

For the BODY
> Apply to warm, damp skin by spraying directly onto the body or into your hands (whichever method you prefer) before spreading evenly over skin. Apply over the entire body including hands/feet/nails.

Vichy NutriEXTRA Dry Oil – $29.50 CDN/125ml spray

My experience with this product has been great so far. I’m allergic to nut products, so I tested this product out on a small area of my skin at first. (since it includes both macadamia and almond oils) I did not experience any adverse reactions so I’ve continued using it on my arms, legs, stomach and chest after a shower/bath. It leaves my skin feeling so soft/smooth and I don’t have to wait forever to get dressed because of it’s quick drying texture. I love how lightweight this product feels, the way it quickly absorbs into the skin and how fantastic it smells! I also think it hydrates far better than a typical lotion moisturizer. I would highly recommend it for anyone with excessively dry skin or anyone looking for a moisturizer that leaves behind a nice healthy sheen behind. I haven’t tried this product on my face or on my hair yet, but would love to hear your thoughts if you have.

Vichy’s NutriEXTRA Extraordinary Oil is hypoallergenic, colorant, silicone & paraben-free and has been tested on sensitive skin under dermatological control.
