L’Oreal Paris Infallible Pro Matte Gloss (Review & Swatches)

Matte lips are certainly taking the beauty world by storm! What I thought was going to be a seasonal trend has turned into a beauty phenomenon and I’m happy to report that beauty brands are now making luxuriously looking matte lips achievable via their hydrating, and easy to apply lipstick formulas. Historically, matte formulas meant dry lips and a flaky application. Is that no longer the case? I recently tested out the new L’Oreal Paris Infallible Pro Matte Glosses ($13.99 CAD) for Spring 2016 and am ready to deliver my verdict. The Infallible Pro Matte Glosses by L’Oreal Paris are basically whipped liquid matte lip “glosses” that wear more like matte lipsticks – the key difference between these and other matte lippies – is their claim to moisturize lips like a gloss and de-void the lips of the drying effects of many matte formulas.

Packaging & Application

Each L’Oreal Paris Infallible Pro Matte Gloss comes in a sleek curvaceous tube with a matte black cap. Every shade is numbered and named on the cap. The applicator itself has a “pro sculpt” design which includes a wide doe-foot and a pointed tip. The pointed tip allows for more precision and dimension while the applicator’s overall shape works to pick up and apply just the right amount of product for average sized lips. Applying this product is really effortless! Those of you worried about applying highly pigmented products like these ones flawlessly, don’t fret because this applicator actually does all of the hard work for you. It’s truly a remarkable design!

Beauty Tip: How to Apply

Start in the centre of your upper lip.

Work from there to the outer edges, following the natural contour of your mouth.

Next, glide product across the bottom lip and fill in.

Formula & Pigmentation

Once on the lips, the formula of the Infallible Pro Matte Glosses is slightly wet looking before quickly drying to a velvety-matte finish. The pigmentation is very impressive – there is nothing sheer about these shades folks – and the finish is non-sticky and long-wearing! In one simple swipe, you can expect full coverage with lots of vibrancy. The creamy texture is thicker than traditional glosses, but thinner than most lipsticks. The best part… the non-drying formula is surprisingly very hydrating and comfortable too!

Overall, this liquid lipstick formula exceeded my expectations! Leave it to L’Oreal to get the job done right!! The soft velvety texture and easy application of these glosses were a surprising change from other matte formulas that I’ve tried to date. You almost forget that you’re even wearing these. I didn’t get all day wear with this product however I did like the stain each colour left behind on my lips. It was obvious enough that re-application was unnecessary. The Infallible Pro-Matte Glosses also pack quite the punch in the pigment department without you having to worry about your lips looking or feeling cakey or dry. I’m not sure about you guys, but there is nothing worse that accentuating dry lip lines by wearing the wrong formula or colour. Well, there you have it. Any standouts or favourites? What do you think about this new Matte formula? Is matte here to stay?
