A new year usually signifies new beginnings. A chance to start something new, reflect on the past and resolve to change or do something differently. From diets and fitness goals to curbing bad habits, New Year’s resolutions don’t always stick, but this year I know at least one of mine that most certainly will! I’m talking about giving my parched winter skin a dose of good, old fashioned hydration! Many of you already know that I take pretty good care of my skin, but I’ve recently discovered that incorporating a few new products in my routine has given my skin the extra moisture that it has been craving. And I plan on keeping the momentum going for months to come!
Dryness and dehydration can make skin look dull, flaky, red and irritated. Oils can help skin retain its moisture. Did you know that it’s our skin’s outermost layer’s job to hold moisture in? This gets harder as we age or when we are exposed to dry or cold climates for long periods of time. Moisture is so important because it facilitates enzyme activity, which just so happens to be the secret to radiant looking skin! Yes, moisture = healthy skin! Therefore, one of my New Year’s beauty resolutions is to use more products that help me stay hydrated from head to toe!
I recently discovered a new brand at Walmart from the makers of Bio-Oil called Lipidol. They’ve created numerous face and body oils that supplement our skin’s natural oily layer and help to keep skin hydrated throughout the day. I also rediscovered an overnight mask from Olay that I’ve used before and also added a new eye cream and moisturizer into my “new” year beauty routine.
Lipidol Cleansing Face Oil removes dirt and makeup without striping the skin of its natural oils. The oil emulsifies into a watery cream upon contact with water and does a great job of cleansing while keeping the skin nourished. I prefer to use it alongside my trusted facial cleansing brush, but a washcloth or your bare hands will also work wonderfully.
Garnier’s Ultra-Lift Miracle Wake-Up Cream was designed specifically to recharge fatigued and dehydrated skin. The gel moisturizer has been a welcome addition to my routine and feels great on the skin! It contains hydro-glycerin, an antioxidant complex of wild berry extract, vitamins C and E and provides a continuous boost of hydration throughout the day. My skin has been feeling energized, awake and ready to take on the day.
Before bed, I apply a few drops of Lipidol Overnight Face Oil to my skin. The oil increases moisture retention and enhances rejuvenation overnight. I can’t stress enough, the importance of having a night-time routine. As mentioned, our skin’s natural oily layer is stripped away during the day, but in the absence of UV light, pollution and stress, our skin has the opportunity to rest and recover at night. This lightly fragranced oil has not clogged my pores or caused any breakouts since I’ve been using it. So…. this “combination” skin girl is pretty happy!
In just a few short weeks, Olay’s Illuminating Eye Cream has managed to lighten the darkness around my eyes. The eye cream not only deposits light-reflecting pigments under the eyes but it also nourishes the area with a boost of moisture for a luminous glow. The result is a smoother, more radiant skin tone and diminished dark circles! A must-try!
I’ve raved about Olay Regenerist’s Overnight Mask Gel Moisturizer before and it totally deserves another mention. While I do not use this every night, I do reach for it 1-2 times a week when I feel my skin needs some extra pampering. It works at the surface cell level to even out skin tone over time while leaving your skin looking supple and well hydrated.
Well, there you have it. My 2017 new year skincare routine. I found all of these hydrating products at my local Walmart store. They had everything my skin needed to start 2017 on the right foot. Who doesn’t love an affordable beauty routine, especially after the holidays?
