REVIEW: TOPPIK Hair Building Fibers (+ Another GIVEAWAY!)

 Toppik is an innovative hair building system for fine or thinning hair. Plain and simple…..it can be used to hide thinning hair or patchy spots as well as fill-in and volumize fine hair. Made of natural, coloured Keratin protein, Toppik Hair Building Fibers blend undetectably with your existing hair to create a full, thicker look. There are many reasons why our hair can start to thin out. The main causes are: stress, hormone changes (i.e. pregnancy, menopause), a poor diet, vitamin deficiencies, thyroid problems (the culprit in my case) and over-use of hair extensions or chemical hair treatments. In my husband’s case it’s genetically linked. My husband keeps his hair short, so the thinning isn’t too obvious unless he grows his hair out, but even so, it’s definitely an issue. When I first introduced this product to my husband, he said “I don’t want spray paint in my hair”. A typical man’s response? I assured him that this was not paint and explained that the “hair fibers” would attach themselves to fine strands of his hair and blend in naturally. And that’s exactly what they did! Toppik is pretty awesome and delivers to all of it’s claims. What’s really nice about it is how natural it looks once you apply it and how immediate the results are. There are four Hair Building Fibers ($28 CAD) shades to choose from: Light Brown, Medium Brown, Dark Brown and Black. I do wish that there was a Dark Blonde shade since I think that may have suited my husband a bit better but the Light Brown shade worked as well. I’m not exactly sure what a true blonde would use since the lightest shade is the light brown? Regardless, this is definitely worth checking out if your hair is thinning and happens to be close in colour to one of the shades available.

I also gave the system a try since my hair has gotten sparse in some areas (i.e. hairline, brows) since my thyroid surgery last year. While I haven’t mastered the art of applying this product to my brows just quite yet, I did love the way TOPPIK filled in the sparse areas around my hairline when my hair was pulled back. It really worked great to cover the scalp in those thinned out areas. After each application, and for long-lasting results, it is recommended that you spray the area with Toppik’s FiberHold Spray ($11 CAD). If you are interested in trying out this product, I strongly suggest that you invest in the Hair Perfecting Tool Kit ($28 CAD). It’s a one-time investment and will make application 100% easier. The kit includes a Spray Applicator, Hairline Optimizer/Guide and a travel size of the Fiber Hold Spray. The Spray Applicator is a must-have since it ensures precise coverage in more localized areas of hair thinning. Without it the product needs to be shaken on. (see photo above)

How to Apply Toppik Hair Building Fibers:
1) Dry and style your hair as usual
2) Shake or spray Toppik Fibers (in your desired shade) liberally into thinning areas
3) Gently pat your hair to dispense the fibers
4) Secure fibers style in place using the Fiber Hold SprayHow Toppik Works
