My teenage niece Ally has been on the lookout for the perfect foundation recently and what kind of makeup obsessed aunt would I be if I didn’t help her on her quest to finding flawless coverage?
Needless to say, I have been trialing many options lately, especially drugstore brands, even though I am quite happy with my triad of MAC Face & Body Foundation, BB Cream and/or Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer.
On my quest I stumbled upon Maybelline’s Instant Age Rewind Eraser Makeup (I picked up Classic Ivory because it’s winter now in Canada) which comes in “gimicky” packaging that you turn to allow the product to flow through a sponge located on the top.
Maybelline recommends this product be applied directly to the skin with the Micro-Corrector Applicator (aka “the sponge”), and blended in an outward motion as needed. I did use the Sponge Tip to dab the product onto my face HOWEVER I prefer to use a foundation brush, sponge or my own fingers to blend the product into my skin. Not sure why, but I didn’t like the sponge at all, it is very small and took too long to cover my face/neck. Using my own brush or clean fingers were much more hygienic options for me. Other than the packaging, which is not ideal in my opinion, I did find this “makeup” to be quite good.
I chose a shade lighter than my actual skin color and it actually covered my dark circles and any age spots or redness on my face nicely. The product was buildable so if you need additional coverage, you can re-apply to get your desired effect.
I especially liked the feel of this product. It almost felt like a liquid to powder finish as it initially went on wet/slippery then dried to a non-shiny powdery finish that lasted throughout the day. No creasing, caking or fading after about 10 hours of wear.
I checked out the Maybelline website and this is what it claims:
- Patented Micro-Corrector Applicator micro-fills and smooths out any imperfections on the skin’s surface
- Super-concentrated formula with Goji berry and Collagen tightens & improves skin elasticity
- Clinically proven effectiveness- doesn’t just cover; after 8 weeks of use reduces imperfections without makeup on.
Definitely worth giving a try, especially if other drugstore options you’ve tried feel too lightweight or too heavy for you. This is a good in between that provides medium coverage and is reasonably priced. I just wish the packaging was different.
