Have you seen the new Colorstay lipsticks from Revlon? Formulated with Shea Butter, Aloe and Vitamin E, the new Ultimate Suede Lipsticks come in 20 shades and have a texture, finish and formula of their own. In my opinion, Revlon makes some of the best lip products on the market. When you first apply the Ultimate Suede Lipstick, your lips feel instantly hydrated and look luscious & glossy but after awhile (the lipstick “sets” in about 5 minutes) the texture changes to a smooth matte finish. If you plan to give these a try, I strongly recommend that your lips are smooth and exfoliated before applying these lipsticks since they can accentuate any dryness that you may have. Dryness is common with long-wearing lip products and unfortunately it comes with the territory, regardless of which brand you try, so I like layering these with a moisturizing lip balm. Using a lip liner is optional since I didn’t find that using/not using one made any difference in the look and feel of these. I did find that the darker shades lasted longer and that some of the more sheer colours were quite buildable, which was a nice option to have.
I personally have never really been a huge fan of long-wearing lip products, mostly because I have extra dry lips that chap easily and lip products that “stay on” too long on me tend to settle into my lips’ fine lines. These lipsticks weren’t as drying as some other long-wearing ones I’ve tried and I found these to have incredible pigmentation and a great colour selection. Are these my favourite formula? No.. but the key for me, was pairing these lipsticks with a good balm, which I believe made a world of difference.

Overall, I can see why there have been so many mixed reviews on this product. I definitely think that Revlon makes far better options in their lip product range, including the two products mentioned above, but what I think it boils down to, is preference. Those of you who prefer long-wearing, matte lipsticks instead of glossier options that wear off quickly, will love these. And, those of you who who prefer a more glossy finish and don’t mind re-applying throughout the day, likely won’t care for these. How do you weigh-in?
