Revlon PhotoReady Primer, Shadow & Sparkle Palettes: The Neutrals with Swatches

I recently came across the Revlon Photoready Shadows at the store and knew right away that I had to try them. Each palette consists of “three highly pigmented eye shadows, a primer and a sparkly topcoat” in one convenient compact. Turn the palette over and there are diagrammed instructions that make “where to apply” each powder a breeze. The topcoat is meant to enhance the overall look.

Both of the Photoready palettes that I have include a mix of textures (i.e. shimmer, sparkle). I was most interested in trying out the primer, which I mistakenly assumed was cream-based. Turns out, it, along with the other shades are all powders. The shadows themselves can be applied wet or dry (swatches below are dry) and while some of the shades did prove to be powdery, the majority of them were really gorgeous and pigmented neutrals.

Overall I enjoyed these palettes but didn’t find the powder primer to be too effective as a base. Instead I use the “primers” in both palettes as inner corner and brow bone highlights. I did really like the taupe and chocolate shades and the shimmery shades in both had a lot of depth and were really gorgeous. The “topcoat” glitters had a bit of fallout but I guess this is somewhat expected, provided they are glitters? I prefer to use the topcoats on the lower lash line over standard eye liner to tie my entire look together.

All of the shadows are easy to blend and overall the palettes offer a good variety of options. I do wish, as is the case with other brands, that there were more matte options included. Depending on which of the 8 colour combinations you choose, I think these palettes can be either hit or miss, however if you do find a colour combo you really like, I would invest in one (or more) of these since they are good eye palettes to have in your collection.
