To the Rescue: Redken Diamond Oil Shampoo, Conditioner & Deep Facets IntensiveTreatment (+ Hair Saving Tips!!!)

After spending a week in the sun, my hair was definitely in need of some nurturing. As soon as I got home, I grabbed some of my go-to “hair saviours” by Redken and started the much needed recovery process. I’ve posted about the Diamond Oil range before, but had previously focused on the oils so today, I want to provide an update on some of the other products in the range. (Keep reading for hair tips on how to keep your hair healthy & strong!)

The products in this range give hair strength and a diamond-like shine. Here’s a bit of history on my hair. I’ve never had issues with dullness (my hair has natural shine to it) but it does tend to break easily and get dry if I don’t take good care of it. For this particular trip, I packed quite light, so I didn’t have many of the products I typically use at home, so the chlorine, sun and wind definitely took its toll on my tresses. My hair became dull, dry, coarse and lacked lustre.

Enter Deep Facets – an intensive hair treatment. Although marketed for post-processed hair issues, I use this every time my hair needs to be resuscitated. It provides a protective layer over the hair that prevents further damage. I apply this treatment all over my hair, then wrap it in a hot towel and leave on for 20 minutes before rinsing out.  I absolutely love this treatment and find it very effective. To help restore my hair to a healthier state, I also used Redken’s oil-enriched Shampoo & Conditioner.

The sun isn’t the only “dryness” culprit. There are many other reasons why your hair may be dry. (i.e. medications, etc). Below are a few Hair Tips that I swear by:

1) Avoid washing your hair excessively or everyday, It isn’t necessary and can actually strip your hair of its natural oils and essential moisture causing it to become more brittle. If your already suffer from dryness, make sure to choose moisturizing shampoos or those made especially for dry/damaged hair.

2) Whenever possible, try to avoid or limit the time you spend in humid, hot or dry temperatures

3) Use a wide tooth comb when combing through wet hair. Wet hair is more vulnerable to breakage so a comb is your best bet.

4) Do not use harsh or strong shampoos. Always look for effective, yet gentle formulas

5) Only use heat styling tools (i.e. blow dryers, straightening/curling irons) in conjunction with thermal heat protectant products which help protect hair from high temperatures

6) Make sure to get regular haircuts/trims every 6-8 weeks. This helps prevent breakage and split ends.

Want to try making your own Hair Mask? I recently stumbled on this great recipe online.

Mix equal quantities of milk & yogurt. Add 4 tablespoons of honey and 3 drops of olive oil. Refrigerate for 10 minutes.

Apply the mask onto your hair from roots to tip & massage into the scalp. Leave on 20 minutes, then rinse off.

Applying a hair treatment like Deep Facets or the homemade concoction above is important to do at least once every 1-2 weeks. If your hair is extremely dry, you can also leave treatments on overnight (just wear a shower cap to bed) and rinse them off in the morning.
