Maybelline New York recently came out with new products for Spring 2018 including various eye shadow palettes, a full coverage foundation, new shades of the liquid lipstick that EVERYONE is talking about and a Total Temptation range! Lets not waste any time and dive right in!
One of the most talked about new products for Spring this year is Maybelline’s SuperStay Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick ($11.99 CAD), specifically the Un-Nudes Collection. Un-Nudes features 10 new liquid lipstick shades – this time unconventional “neutrals” ranging from nudes and browns to unique purples, all of which have been captivating the beauty community. The new shades remind me more of colours that you’d expect to see in the Fall but they are gorgeous and would suit a variety of different skin tones. Before this launch I picked up “Escapist” (swatched along with the others below) in order to test out the Matte Ink formula and although it ended up being too dark for me, I did fall in love with its formula. Surprising, I know! Matte lip products have never looked good on me. It could be because my lips are on the drier side or because I’m over 40 but lets just say I was mighty impressed when swatching these! The applicator is very precise and the pigmentation and lasting power of these is insane! These don’t budge for hours and are so comfortable on the lips! Can you tell I really like them?
Original shades: Loyalist, Dreamer, Lover, Pioneer, Heroine, Romantic, Creator, Believer, Escapist & Voyager
Un-Nudes: Driver, Poet, Seductress, Amazonian, Ruler, Fighter, Protector, Huntress, Visionary & Philosopher
Maybelline also announced the launch of a new franchise earlier this year. Total Temptation includes a coconut-scented mascara ($11.99 CAD), a shadow/highlight palette and a new brow definer pencil. The mascara will appeal to anyone looking for full, voluminous lashes as it has a wide, thicker set wand. If you prefer a more separated, natural look, you may need a spoolie to separate your lashes and you’ll also need multiple coats of this to make it more of a lengthening mascara. I’m still playing around with it but I’ve already noticed that this mascara seems to make my lashes really soft (the coconut extract perhaps?). Also available in a waterproof formula in teal packaging.
The Total Temptation Brow Definer ($11.99 CAD) is a retractable, twist-up pencil with a small spoolie for blending on one end and tinted brow product on the other. It reminds me a lot of the Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil which retails for $30. The tip of this pencil does not allow for the most precise application but overall it does a good job of filling in sparse areas and “drawing in hairs” where you may need them. Its a great drugstore alternative to its comparable high end counterpart. I should probably also mention that the spoolie on this is short and fat as opposed to long and narrow but this does not in any way affect its efficacy. Available in 4 shades: Blonde, Soft Brown, Medium Brown and Deep Brown.
The Total Temptation Shadow + Highlight Palette ($17.99 CAD) is an all-in-one shadow and highlighter palette that includes 8 eye shadows (4 on each side) and 2 cheek powders (in the middle). While the palette does not include a mirror, it is a really nice palette to travel with especially if you are looking to take an assortment of matte and shimmer shadows with you on-the-go. The shadows are also really well formulated and come in both warm and cool-toned shades. The highlighters are much too shimmery for the face, but I’ve absolutely been loving them as eye shadow! Maybelline’s Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter ($12.99 CAD) in Molten Gold has got to be one of my top 3 highlighters of all time! This Spring, the brand launched Molten Rose Gold a spin off of the original with the same melted metallic highlight formula. I don’t own it yet but it is on my beauty shopping list so stay tuned for more deets! The Burgundy Bar Eye Shadow palette and the City Kits Pink Edge & Urban Lights Eye & Cheek palettes (all $17.99 CAD) are also new for Spring. Burgundy Bar is an assortment of 12 expertly curated shadows infused with burgundy pigments. I’ve been able to come up with a lot of great looks with this palette. Each of the shades have a really nice sheen/shimmer to them except for the 2 transition shades located on the far right. Those matte shades compliment the palette’s other shades perfectly however.
I wasn’t a fan of The City Kits Urban Lights palette as I found the iridescent shadows much too juvenile for my taste but The City Kits Pink Edge palette was an entirely different story. I really loved the mix of matte and shimmer shadows in this palette. They complimented my skin tone perfectly! The highlighter and blush shades in this palette (far left) are also gems.
Maybelline’s SuperStay 24hr Foundation ($14.99 CAD) is a lightweight, yet high-impact coverage formula that provides a flawless base and lasting wear. It comes in 16 different shades but because of its ultra-pigmentation, Maybelline recommends swatching it on your skin and allowing it to dry fully to see its true colour. I need to give this foundation more wear time before delivering my final verdict so be sure to follow my Insta Stories for an update.
Not mentioned in this post but also new launches for Spring 2018 are Maybelline’s Lip Python Metallic Lip Kit ($12.99 CAD), Color Sensational Powder Matte Lipsticks ($9.99 CAD), the Tattoo Studio Waterproof Brow Gel ($14.99 CAD) and Lasting Drama Eye Lighteners ($11.99 CAD) – each available in 4 shades respectively.
