Last weekend some local bloggers and I were invited to Hotel X in Toronto for a “staycation” to celebrate the launch of Bio-Oil‘s new Dry Skin Gel – a unique gel-to-oil formula for dry skin. This launch marks the brand’s second (and only) new product in over 30 years! Many of you know that I’ve used Bio-Oil every single day since 2012 to treat a surgical scar on my neck. Friends of mine have also sworn by the oil, claiming to have lathered their bellies during pregnancy to ward off unsightly stretch marks. Until recently, Bio-Oil had only one product – the infamous orange oil developed for scars and stretch marks that I have come to truly love.  

I was lucky enough to try Bio-Oil’s Dry Skin Gel before it hit stores and can certainly attest to its ability to hydrate and nourish the skin. Part of the “staycation” also involved learning about the new formula. I was quite surprised to find out that most creams, lotions and body butters contain approximately 70% water, most of which evaporates when it comes into contact with skin and offers no real benefit to dry skin. Bio-Oil’s Dry Skin Gel contains 50% of the original bio-oil, humectants, emollients, skin-soothing ingredients and only 3% water! Together, these ingredients (i.e. shea butter, chamomile, glycerine and more!) offer superior hydration to effectively treat dry skin and the unwanted symptoms associated with it such as redness, flaking, irritation and itching. The gel texture is also easy to apply and absorbs quickly into the skin, leaving no greasy film behind. A little of this product truly goes a LONG way!
