Eyes Lips Face (ELF) Studio Blushes: Review, Swatches & Dupes for NARS

Are the E.L.F Studio blushes really a budget-friendly alternative to higher priced blushes? How do they compare to other brands? While the E.L.F range has 11 shades currently available, I reviewed six of them. Five will be included in this post and the other, which is a highlighter (Gotta Glow) can be found in my NARS vs. ELF dupe post here.

What does E.L.F. say? “The soft sheer texture blends into the skin for a silky finish. Designed to be worn alone or layered for more depth. Highlight your complexion with a subtle healthy glow.”

Available in the following shades:

> Twinkle Pink
> Tickled Pink
> Pink Passion (Matte) (see below)
> Mellow Mauve
> Giddy Gold (see below)
> Merry Berry
> Blushing Rose
> Fuchsia Fusion (see below)
> Peachy Keen (see below)
> Candid Coral (see below)
> Gotta Glow (highlighter)

Swatches from L to R:
Peachy Keen, Giddy Gold, Candid Carol, Fuchsia Fusion & Pink Passion

The E.L.F Studio blush packaging is sleek, rectangular and black. It features a  see-through window exposing the colour of the blush and holds 2.75g of product. Visually, the packaging is similar to NARS, although with NARS, you can’t see the blush colour until you open the compact, which holds much more product (4.8g).

Depending on the shade, the quality of these vary. The pigmentation overall is quite good. I was pleasantly surprised with the colour payoff, although a few of them applied a bit grainy/chalky before blending. (i.e Pink Passion, Giddy Gold)

I wish the colour selection had more matte options available but will say that despite your skin tone, there is an option in the shade range for everyone. I love that the ELF blushes are similar (some would argue they are dupes) for some of NARS’ most famous shades. Here is the comparison if your interested:

Elf Gotta Glow = NARS Albatross
Elf Candid Coral = NARS Orgasm
Elf Twinkle Pink = NARS Deep Throat
Elf Pink Passion = NARS Desire (slightly darker)
Elf Fuchsia Fusion = NARS Angelika
Elf Berry Merry = NARS Sin (darker and more plum)
Elf Blushing Rose = NARS Dolce Vita
Elf Peachy Keen = NARS Luster

Pros:
> Inexpensive
> Decent range of shades & finishes (shimmer, matte, glitter)
> Well pigmented
> Sleek compact packaging
> Good lasting power

Cons:
> Slightly powdery texture.
> Grittier than high-end counterparts
> Built-in mirror is small and not functional
> Not easily accessible in Canadian stores

Overall, the ELF Studio blushes offer good quality at an incredible price. Of course, these are not comparable in quality to brands like Benefit, MAC and NARS however they are excellent for the price. At merely $3.00 a piece (online or at US retailers like Target), these are definitely a fantastic deal.
