Dior Golden Winter Holiday 2013 Collection (Photos, Review and Swatches)

The Dior Golden Winter Holiday Collection was inspired by “Versailles at the heart of Winter”. Dior’s products are always among the most luxurious and this season’s limited edition collection is no exception. Everything about this collection is absolutely breathtaking. It includes two new eye shadow quints, three lipsticks, two lip glosses, three nail polishes and a manicure duo in the prettiest packaging …. Let’s take a closer look.

“This holiday, the splendor of Versailles shines on in the Dior makeup collection, which draws inspiration from images of the iconic palace and its gardens covered in snow.”

Both of Dior’s new limited edition 5-Couleur eye shadow palettes are very wearable options for either day or night. I’ve been reaching for Golden Flower more often for “day looks” since it is the more neutral palette of the two options available. The shades, which include bronze, chocolate brown, pink and vanilla/champagne are paired up with a glittery gold, making it easy for looks to transition from day to night. The colours are so beautiful and complement each other very well. Golden Snow is more cool-toned and a much more “shimmery” palette in comparison. It contains a cool-toned pink, a gold, frosted white, taupe and a dark charcoal. This palette is definitely more bold and festive but maintains its wearability. It’s a perfect choice for evening, parties or anytime you want to add a touch of extra sparkle to your look. Both palettes boast creamy, soft and well pigmented shadows. The only word of caution I’d exercise is that the more glittery shades have a bit of fallout. Aside from that, both of these palettes would be great investments.

*note the luminous micro-pearls in the palm of my hand
The new Dior Vernis bottles for the Holidays are lavish to say the least! Each polish is housed in a very elegant round bottle with a gold top and entirely different from one another. Any of them however are on trend for Winter. My favourite of the bunch is Minuit, a dark, vampy shade with red & gold flecks running through it. It’s such a unique colour. Marilyn is also another jem and a must-have for fans of creamy red polish! Frimas is more subtle than the other two and has an almost greige-pink vibe with a distinctive gold fleck.

Every collection has a showstopper and for this one it’s the Diorific Jewel Manicure Duo. This duo, inspired by the magnificent adornments of Versailles, includes a beautiful gold lacquer base and luminous crystal micro-pearls to sprinkle on top for a three-dimensional effect. I’d be lying if I said I’ve already tried this, but I’ll be sure to update this page or do a review once I actually take it for a test drive. Overall, the new Vernis polishes have the same great quality of the originals with a festive edge.

Dior Addict Gloss in Enchanted Rose (Top) & Pink Fantasy (Bottom) – $29.50 USD/$31 CDN
Dior Addict Gloss Swatches: Enchanted Rose #451 (L) & Pink Fantasy #776 (R)

Dior Addict Glosses are among my favourite glosses of all-time. (A bold statement but true!) Some glosses in the range are sheer and provide a hint of colour while others pack more of a pigment punch. This season, Dior introduces us to Pink Fantasy & Enchanted Rose. Both glosses are nicely pigmented and have a semi-opaque finish. Whether you prefer a bright raspberry shade like Pink Fantasy or a more subtle/sheer peachy gold shimmer like Enchanted Rose, is a matter of preference but the quality of these are impeccable. Dior Addict glosses are creamy, non-sticky and do a great job of moisturizing the lips. They provide an incredible shine if you like that sort of thing so do yourself a favour and go test one out at your local counter.
Diorific Lipsticks – $36 USD /$40 CDN
Diorific Lipsticks: Swatches (L-R) Winter, Minuit & Diva

The Diorific Lipsticks are richly pigmented, super creamy and long-wearing. The consistency of them is more on the thicker side but the finish is quite nice once on the lips. I love the luxurious and vintage-looking gold packaging of these. They are pretty enough to keep displayed on a vanity! These have a distinct scent to them and although it doesn’t bother me, some of you may prefer an unscented product? As for the shades, Winter is a lovely reddish burgundy with a slight sheen, Minuit is a bold fuchsia with very apparent pink undertones and slight shimmer and Diva is a gorgeous and wearable ruby red with blue undertones (my favourite!)

The collection as a whole is an absolute home run. There is something for everyone as it appeals to many tastes… aside from the omission of a neutral lip. Who needs that at this time of year anyways? Do yourself a favour and go check out this collection at a Dior counter near you. The collection launched in November and is available for a limited time.
