Nicole by OPI Carrie Underwood Nail Lacquer Collection 2014 (some swatches)+ A Nail Challenge!

Nicole by OPI recently launched 14 new nail lacquers inspired by award-winning recording artist Carrie Underwood. This collection features a range of shades including red, pink and coral crèmes, chunky and textured glitters in gold, silver and white as well as rich eggplant and khaki green shades.

Since her American Idol days, Carrie Underwood has been a musical powerhouse. Her music and lyrics can evoke powerful emotions. (more on that below) In working with Carrie, who happens to also be a style icon, Nicole by OPI came up with these new shades that sum up her soulful spirit and showcase different facets of her personality. I’ve only tried a few of them but have seen other swatches and they are all lovely. The formula for some of the lighter shades is thin and may require 3 coats depending on preference, but aside from that, these are all extraordinary shades with beautiful finishes. For a complete look at swatches from the entire collection, check out my friend Dee’s site here.

I was asked to participate in a nail challenge featuring the Nicole by OPI Carrie Underwood polishes. The challenge was to create a manicure inspired by one of Carrie’s songs using only shades from this collection. You all know I am NOT a nail art whiz and am just starting to get the hang of painting my own nails. But…. I thought this would be really fun. The finished product is below. Let me know what you guys think. I would REALLY appreciate you sharing this photo on Twitter using the hash tags #Sandra4Nicole and #NicoleChallenge. If you do plan on sharing, don’t forget to tag me at @makeupjunkie19 so that I can see!

The Carrie song that I was inspired by was “Jesus Takes the Wheel”The song is about a mother who hits a sheet of black ice and is swerving out of control with her baby in the backseat of the car. When she realizes she no longer has control of the vehicle, she takes her hands off of the steering wheel and asks Jesus to “take the wheel”. The car eventually comes to a safe stop (she and baby are fine) and she then embraces her faith in God. I used 2 coats of Fisher Queen as a base (the dark colour represents a dark/difficult time, and in this case the dangerous situation the mother finds herself in). I then used Sing You Like a Bee and a nail brush to create “golden rays”  which symbolize the women’s faith and God’s presence. Hope you like it!
