REVIEW: Urban Decay Pulp Fiction Collection Fall 2014 #MrsMiaWallace

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the release of Quentin Tarantino’s crime comedy Pulp Fiction! To help celebrate the occasion, Urban Decay is coming out with a limited edition makeup collection inspired by the film’s memorable character, Mrs. Mia Wallace played by Uma Thurman. In the movie Mia sports an edgy beauty look complete with smoky eyes and blood red lips. The collection includes everything you need to recreate Mrs. Mia Wallace’s look from the film.
Pulp Fiction Eyeshadow Palette

The limited edition palette includes 5 shades of eye shadow, each featuring Urban Decay’s Pigment Infusion System – a proprietary blend of ingredients that gives every shade its velvety texture, rich color, serious staying power and blendability. Two of the shades look sort of familiar while the other three are completely new to me. The shiny black case features the Ezekiel passage voiced by Jules (aka Samuel L. Jackson) in the film. Inside, there’s a good-sized mirror & a double-ended brush. As with all other Urban Decay eye shadows, the ones in this palette are also smooth and easy to blend. They provide good pigmentation and are long-lasting. Upon first glance, this palette looks pretty ordinary but it isn’t until you start to play with it that you realize how compatible these shades truly are. I love this palette but wish it was slightly smaller (with less cardboard packaging) for travel. If you are looking for a good basic neutral palette with mostly mattes, you will like this one. I sure do!

Righteous
Described as a “light cream matte”. This shade was slightly powdery when I applied it is a gorgeous bright yellow-toned beige, and works well as a highlight.

Tyranny

Described as a “warm brown matte”. This shade has good pigmentation and is a good base or transitional color. It has orange undertones, is quite versatile and it performs well.

Vengeance

Described as a “deep taupe-brown matte-satin”. This shade is my favourite in the palette. It has great color payoff and the same soft, velvety texture as the others, but I find myself reaching for it more often.

Furious

Described as a “white satin”. This shade has a pretty pearly sheen to it but I do wish it was slightly more opaque. Aside from that it functions well as an inner corner highlight.

Anger
Described as a “black satin with slight tonal sparkle”. This shade was my least favourite of the bunch because it seemed harder to work with/blend. Regardless it could be used to smoke out the crease or can also be used as a liner.

Revolution Lipstick in “Mrs. Mia Wallace”
Described as a “deep blood red”, this rich medium-dark red lipstick is the perfect complement to an edgy eye look. The lipstick’s long-lasting formula contains nourishing oils so it applies creamy on the lips while also being hydrating. What I like most about it though, is its shine. The pigmentation is quite bold so one single swipe is all you need to achieve the colour in the swatch below.
24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil in “Mrs. Mia Wallace”
Described as a “blood red”, this medium-dark red shade was designed to match and be worn with the lipstick above.  It has a lovely matte finish that isn’t drying on the lips at all. I’m not much of a lip liner connoisseur, but this one functions quite well and compares to the 24/7 eyeliners (also by Urban Decay) which I use and love. I really like that this formula is waterproof so there is no need to worry about feathering or bleeding.

Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner in “Gunmetal”
Described as a “black with black & silver sparkle”, this liquid liner is a combination of black & silver fine glitters in a clear base. The water-based formula is semi-opaque but it can be built up if desired. I would caution using too much though, since glitters can get clumpy on the lash line. The liner dries quickly and doesn’t budge once it’s dry.

Nail Color in “Mrs Mia Wallace”
Described as a “deep red with slight shimmer”, this intense ruby/blood red has a 3-free formula and applies fully opaque in 2 coats. It produced no streaking and was easy to apply. I experienced no issues with this formula and really liked how shiny the formula was when I swatched it. The packaging is also very edgy and features a black cap with skull top. So cool!
