Real Techniques Duo-Fiber Brush Collection (Limited Edition)

Happy Sunday lovelies! Today I have the limited edition Real Techniques Duo-Fiber Brush Set ($29.99 CAD) to share with you. Real Techniques was founded by UK makeup artist Samantha Chapman – 1/2 of sister duo “Pixiwoos” on YoutubeThe brand first arrived in Canada in 2013 and has created a niche ever since, becoming well-known for their high quality synthetic makeup brushes at a very affordable price point.  If you are not familiar with the range, I’ll quickly get you all caught up. Real Techniques brushes are synthetic, they fall into one of three categories and they’re colour coded depending on their function. For example, eye brushes are purple, face/base brushes are gold and finishing touch brushes are pink. The new Duo-Fiber Collection brushes are white however each of them have coloured labels (purple, gold or pink) indicating where/how they should be used. The new limited edition set includes three synthetic taklon brushes – one from each category – all of which are suitable for use with cream, liquid or powder products. They are ultra-plush, hand cut and help to produce an air-brushed, flawless finish. As with all RT brushes, these ones are also lightweight, cruelty-free and have aluminum handles for extra sturdiness and durability. The biggest difference between these and their standard brush range is the density of the duo-fiber bristles. The new collection’s bristles are sparser in comparison mainly because these brushes were designed to provide a more subtle, lightweight & natural application.

Duo-Fiber Face Brush

This brush is the largest brush included in the set. It is thick but not dense, which makes it perfect for applying loose, pressed or mineral powders. The brush itself is not perfectly rounded (it has flat sides) which allows for a more controlled application. This is a good brush for setting powder/bronzer or for light touch ups throughout the day. It does not distribute a lot of product so if you are looking for more coverage, the Multi-Task Brush from the regular line may be a better option.

Duo-Fiber Contour Brush

The duo-fiber contour brush is multi-functional and great for subtle sculpting, contouring or lightweight blush/highlighter application. It’s also a good option for setting under eye concealer since it has a slightly pointed tip and flat sides. I’ve read that some people have been using this brush to apply face makeup however I prefer denser brushes for applying foundation. I reach for this brush when applying cream bronzer or blush for a soft yet buildable finish.

Duo-Fiber Eye Brush

The eye brush in this set is a duo-fiber version of MAC’s #217 in my opinion. It has a great pointed tip which makes it ideal for blending out eye colour or even concealer. It also works really well to build colour and/or define the crease.

While this set is made up of three really good brushes, I would still recommend starting out with the Core Collection ($23.99 CAD) or Eyes Starter Kit ($19.99 CAD) if you are new to Real Techniques and are looking to invest in some of their brushes for the first time.
