Chanel Le Rouge Collection N°1 Fall 2016: Review & Swatches

Chanel’s Fall 2016 beauty collection – Le Rouge Collection N°1 – is all about the colour red. “Red is intense. It is vulnerable, sexual and eternal”, says Lucia Pica, Chanel’s Global Creative Makeup and Colour Designer. “When you think of the colour red, you usually think of love and desire, innocence & experience, life and death”. While the classic colour has firm roots in the lip and nail realm, we are not used to seeing it near the eyes, so this collection is sure to peak some serious interest!

I personally can’t wait until all this heat & humidity gets on its merry way. My favourite season is just around the corner and with Fall comes everything that makes me happy…..cooler temperatures, scenic colours, cozy scarves and some pretty awesome beauty collections like the one below!). Pairing a classic leather jacket and killer pair of booties with a bright red lip and a messy ponytail is my idea of effortless Fall beauty and one that I can’t wait to wear! Red nails, red lips and earthy tones are Fall & Winter beauty staples, so at first glance, this collection doesn’t waver too far from the expected – except that it features a wickedly fun red toned eye shadow.

First up is Chanel’s new Les 4 Ombres ($68 CAD) in #268 Candeur et Expérience. A trio of brown eye shadows paired with a contrasting deep brick-red shade. The shadow quad features beautiful warm tones that can be combined to create easy day looks or worn more intensely by incorporating the red shade for more drama. The quality of Chanel’s shadows is among the very best. Each shadow is silky and richly pigmented. And, the red shade is a lot easier to work with than it is intimidating to look at.

The collection also includes Chanel’s Illusion D’Ombre in #128 Rouge Brûlé ($41 CAD) & Illusion D’Ombre Velvet in #132 Rouge Contraste ($41 CAD) –  2 luxurious cream shadows in a high shine coppery orange shade and a matte deep brown. I must admit the orange is a wee bit outside my comfort zone but surprisingly it pairs really well with the richness of the chocolate brown and the earth tones in the eye shadow palette.
